An Introduction to a Future PA

Hello Everyone!
My name is Shivani Patel. I am from Clinton, OK. I was born in India but moved here with my family to the United State when I was about five years old. I am a senior Psychology/Pre-PA major. I also have a minor in Sociology-Criminology. I love photography, and my favorite subject is nature. If you look into my phone camera roll, you’ll see a lot of random pictures of the sky, flowers, or scenery. I would like to one day have a photography business on the side. I got to visit Disney World in Orlando last summer and it was the best time of my life. I felt like a little kid again.
Me at Magic Kingdom.

Being a Pre-PA major means I get to take a lot of science classes and so far, my favorite has been Human Anatomy. I’m sure everyone has heard about how hard the class is, and how hard the professor is. Here’s the truth. The class really is hard, but it is really cool and fun. I was in the five-credit hour one so I actually got to dissect on a cadaver. In the beginning I thought I wouldn’t be able to handle it, but I got the hang of it really quickly. I got to learn about every bone, every muscle, and every vessel in the human body. I think I annoyed everyone around me when I was taking it because I would be like “did you know, you have a muscle in your body called so and so. Here, let me show you.” I basically used my friends and family as like practice dummies. I’m sure they’re all glad I’m done with the class.

I am also an avid movies and TV shows watcher. My favorite movies (and book series) is Harry Potter. I usually obsess over anything Harry Potter whenever I see anything about it. I also love the Marvel movies like The Avengers. I’m always looking for a new show to watch on Netflix or whatever, feel free to leave me a recommendation!

  1. That is so cool that you were born in India, Shivani! Maybe you can use this class as a way to learn more about the place in India where you were born, or just about the epic geography of India; both epics are centered around northern India, but in the Ramayana, Rama and his army will travel all the way to the south and then to Sri Lanka in order to rescue Sita! And Harry Potter is such a wonderful storytelling style to use, especially with the Patil sisters being there to give you an excuse to bring in Indian stories of magic and the supernatural. Before Harry Potter, I'm guessing most Americans did not know the name Parvati... but now they do! And with your name of Shivani, perhaps you might even want to do a project for this class all about Parvati/Shivani! One of the ACK comic books on Reserve in Bizzell is Shiva Parvati :-)

  2. Hi, Shivani! I'm so jealous that you went to Disney World! Isn't there a Harry Potter World in Orlando? Did you get to go it? I've always wanted to go and try the butter beer! I think I'm a Hufflepuff, but I took the sorting test so long ago that I can't remember. I'm glad you liked anatomy too! It was definitely my favorite class as well. I don't think I've ever learned so much before. That class changed how I looked at and treated my own body. I just watched the new Avengers and I CANNOT wait for next one!! Have you seen To All The Boys I Ever Loved on Netflix yet? I know that it's super popular right now, but if you haven't seen it, you should! It's a super cute rom-com based on a really good book that I also recommend! Good luck with everything this semester!

  3. Hey Shivani! My name is Deborah, and I’m also a senior. I’m pretty excited to graduate, although, you know, nervous/anxious at the same time. I also love Harry Potter as well! I have read all the books multiple times over, but have only watched the first two movies.. I know, I really need to watch the rest of them. Anyway, best of luck this year, girl!

  4. Hey Shivani! I'm happy to see a familiar face in this class. I didn't know that you were so passionate about photography, but I totally see it now because I know you love to take beautiful pictures of the sky lol! I love that your minor and your passion for photography let you explore worlds outside of biological sciences. It will be awesome to mesh those things into your future career. Do you think that you will choose to do a storybook or a portfolio that have to do with criminology or nature?

  5. Hi Shivan! I enjoyed reading your introduction. Your human anatomy class seems really interesting. That would be a cool subject for your storybook! You could connect the stories like they are all part of the same anatomy. I've always wanted to go to Disney world; it looks so fun! I recommend the show About a Boy; the way the characters interact is hilarious. Also, I agree that Harry Potter is amazing. Hope your semester is going well!

  6. Hey Shivani!
It is very cool how passionate you are about nature and photography! I too really enjoy nature. I have some experience with dissection… but it was from high school bio when we dissected the frog. And that will be the last time I descent something that has been in chemicals for a while. Good luck with this semester!

  7. Hey there Shivani! First of all let me say that I absolutely love your name! I haven't ever met someone with the name Shivani before, and the uniqueness adds to the beauty of it. I too am completely obsessed with Harry Potter, and I even went to Harry Potter World for my senior graduation trip after high school. Im curious to know what house you are... I am a Hufflepuff!

  8. Hey Shivani! It's awesome that you love nature so much and actually take the time to stop and take a picture of it! So often we get caught up in our day to day lives and forget to stop, reflect, and enjoy the simple things like nature!
You're a better person than me as far as dissecting a body goes. Anything human anatomy related typically grosses me out. In fact, I almost fainted once in basic training while giving somebody an IV.. she walked me through it since she was a phlebotomist so it all worked out though!
Anyway, I look forward to reading some more of your stories this semester and hope you have great one!

  9. Hello Shivani! I can see your passion and fascination with health and the human body! I know this passion will get you into PA school! I am a premed major and I am applying to medical schools this semester. I am also an avid movie/TV show watcher! The Avengers is probably my favorite movie at this time! I am looking forward to the next movie. Good luck with the rest of your semester!

  10. Hi Shivani!
I really enjoyed reading your introduction. It's cool that you were born in India. I would like to visit there one day because I still have some family there, but I've never been. Also, I love the Harry Potter series and Marvel too. You should check out some of the marvel shows on Netflix. They have a couple of them. I hope you have a great semester and good luck!

  11. Hi Shivani! It was awesome to read more about you from your introduction post! It sounds exciting that you are seeking as a future PA for your career as well and I am proud of that! It’s also crazy that you have a major in Psychology/Pre-PA and adding Sociology-Criminology as your minor! That seems a lot of workload to me which I would definitely feel exhausted. Keep up the excellent work and I want to wish you the best of luck for your future!

  12. I think it is amazing that you were born in India. It was so much fun reading your introduction and learning more about you. I have some friends who are Pre-PA and they seem to be having a hard enough time without an extra minor! So, good luck to you on that one. Keep up the hard work and best of luck with everything!

  13. Hi Shivani! I am a huge Harry Potter fan as well! Did you know that in November all eight of the movies are coming to Netflix? All of them! I am so excited. I think it is awesome that you want to be a Physician's Assistant. It is such a rewarding career. Good luck with the rest of this semester!

  14. Hi Shivani!
I am excited for you that you are so excited about being a Physicians assistant! I can't imagine remembering all of those muscles and vessels! Its awesome that you are from India and are taking this class! Don't hate me, but I've never actually seen the Harry Potter series... I just never got around to it and it never grabbed my attention... maybe one day i'll give it a try! Keep up the good work!

  15. Hi Shivani! I can totally relate on the random pictures of nature and landscaping on my camera roll! Also, as a fellow Harry Potter fan, I'm excited to share that the movies are all coming to Netflix just in time to binge them before the next Fantastic Beasts movie. Your picture from Disney is really neat- you must have had some fun travels! I can't imagine dissecting a cadaver- what a feeling that must have been! Best of luck this semester!

  16. Hey Shivani,

I actually have a handful of friends who are going to PA route. They're all graduating this spring too! The Avengers and Harry Potter series were a great series to watch!

  17. Hi Shivani! It must be a lot of work to study several different subjects for major and minor. I like to take photos too! I like your Disney World picture! I think Disney World is a fascinating place. Oh wow. It must have been a unique experience to dissect on a cadaver. I can’t even imagine how your experience would have been like. I think both Harry Potter and The Avengers are entertaining! It’s nice to meet you Shivani!

  18. Hey Shivani. It must be really cool being able to work and study in so many different places while you are working towards your major. I have never been to Disney World, but really want to go someday. Disecting a cadaver is really cool, but I do not think that there is anyway I would be able to do that.

  19. Hey Shivani! Anatomy was my favorite course that I took back when I was still on the Pre-Med track. My friends were a little scared at how excited I got about doing the dissections, but it was just so fascinating to get to really see how everything is connected. I took anatomy at my old school, so we didn't have the funding to work with human cadavers. I bet that was wicked awesome. Good luck with your future schooling!

  20. Hey Shivani! I can totally relate to how you would tell everyone facts after taking anatomy! I took it too and every time someone would be like "my arm" I would be like "umm that's your forearm!" Same with thigh and leg! haha I am glad you enjoyed the class! Dissecting the cadaver is so cool too and a great experience for learning.

  21. Hey Shivani! What could've brought you from India to Oklahoma? Lol. I guess there's quite a bit of access to nature here in Oklahoma at least. I love nature as well! I guess everybody does to some extent. I don't think I'd be very avid at Human Anatomy though lol. It;s awesome that you enjoy it and did so well in the class! Nice to meet you!

  22. Hey Shivani! That is so cool that you are from India. Why did your family pick Oklahoma? I am from here and it is nothing special at all to me. I also love Harry Potter. I am actually going to Harry Potter world over break and I am so excited. Good luck finishing up with the semester!

  23. Hello Shivaji Patel!

I am amazed that you are from India. I have always wanted to travel and go there. It is great that you find interest in photography. It is a beautiful thing to capture moments and beautiful things nature shows to us. I used to like Harry Potter when I was younger. The books were so long but so good! I hope you have a great rest of the semester.

  24. Hey Shivani!

It is so nice to meet you! After reading your bio I am sure that we would be best friends, I too am a big Avengers and Harry Potter fan! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT THE INFINITY WAR PART 2 TRAILER COMES OUT THIS WEEK!?!? Sorry.. I may be too excited. I am also a science major so I completely understand annoying your friends with how everything works. Anyway! I hope you had a great semester and good luck on finals!

  25. Hey Shivani!
I bet maybe we have seen each other around! I am in 12 hours of sociology and criminology right now - it is harder than I expected somehow! Have you had John Carl? He is super fun!

I am also all about tv shows - watch Ugly Betty or Jane the Virgin! Personally, i think JTV is better but both are based on Telenovelas so they are quite dramatic and fun, they never leave you to be bored.

  26. Hi Shivani,
Wow, I don't think I'd be able to handle dissecting a cadaver, but I'm glad that you were able to get used to it. As far as TV shows go, I've been watching The Good Place and recently finished watching The Haunting of Hill House. I hope that your semester has gone well and that you do great on your finals!
